ONEIDA COUNTY- The American Red Cross has been notified to assist a family in the wake of Tuesday night’s house fire in Barneveld, NY.
It happened shortly before 7:30 p.m. at 107 Mappa Ave. According to an update from Barneveld Fire Chief Kevin Kalk, firefighters managed to douse the bulk of the blaze within 15-minutes, while remaining on-scene afterword for overhaul operations in below-zero temperatures.
Though the fire remains under investigation, Chief Kalk says it is likely that the flames sparked in the chimney of a pellet stove, which was located on the first floor.
Due to the construction of the home, flames managed to spread rapidly to the second floor and to the attic.
No injuries were mentioned by emergency personnel at press time.
Among other departments who assisted or were called for standby include: Floyd, Holland Patent, Newport, Remsen and Stittville Fire Departments, along with STaR Ambulance.
