LOWVILLE-By late Saturday afternoon during this year’s 205th annual Lewis County Fair, most of the North Country already knew that Dave Schulz was injured in a freak accident during one of the demolition derby heats.

Mr. Schulz is a member of the Fair Board and the Fair Manager, Rachel Lisk, told us his injury was the result of bad luck and being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“It happened so fast,” Lisk said as she described what happened.

Within moments of the incident, first responders were tending to Dave and getting him ready for transport. Schulz was taken to Lowville Hospital and flown from there to SUNY Upstate Medical Center.

Only a few hours after being air lifted away to Syracuse, NY, Mr. Schulz was already texting and calling all of his fair family with orders on how to handle all of his behind the scenes duties – a bit of humorous relief to lighten up what was a very scary scene.

As of this report, the fair board says Mr. Schulz remains in good spirits and he sincerely appreciates all of the love and support everyone has sent.
