LOWVILLE- A few major developments have come to light regarding the suspect who allegedly led police on a chase through the village last Thursday.

On Friday, we reported that Michael J. Burke Jr., 54, of Carthage, NY was arrested by the Sheriff’s Office on several charges, including aggravated DWI and unlawfully fleeing from police.

As of new information made available Monday morning, police say the vehicle that Burke Jr. fled from police with was apparently stolen from a dealership in Statesville, NC.

In addition to the several charges previously lodged against Burke, Jr., investigators have also charged him with felony criminal possession of stolen property in the third-degree (property values > $3,000) and a misdemeanor of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in the third-degree.

Following an arraignment, Burke Jr. was released under the supervision of Lewis County Probation.

Meanwhile, the Lowville Village Police Department has stepped into the equation by issuing Burke Jr. with 24 additional traffic tickets as a result of reportedly failing to comply in conjunction with the criminal charges filed by the Sheriff’s Office.

Again, the Sheriff’s Office extends a special thank you to Lowville and Statesville Police Departments, along with the witnesses who provided crucial information that assisted in the case.
