
UTICA- The victim identified in a fatal car/pedestrian accident over the weekend in the city of Utica, NY is local to the North Country region, authorities confirm.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. Friday, near the intersection of Hopper and Genesee Streets.
Members from Utica City Police and Fire responded to that area when 9-1-1 dispatch received alerts of a couple struck by a vehicle while crossing the street near the Stanley Theater.
Initially, Utica City Police said there was a fatality involved and the victim was identified late Monday as Paul Cross, 65, of Lowville, NY.
His wife is reportedly in stable condition at a nearby hospital, authorities said.
Investigators have determined thus far that the vehicle was traveling across Genesee Street from Court Street to Hopper Street, while Paul and his wife were walking southbound on Genesee Street, crossing Hopper Street.
The Utica Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team has been assigned the crash investigation, and their findings will be released as available.
