UPDATE: Passenger in serious one car accident in Rome succumbs to injuries while in hospital

ROME- A fatality has now been confirmed in the wake of Sunday’s one car accident in Rome, NY that resulted in serious injuries for the driver and passenger.

As previously reported, it happened late in the afternoon Sunday on Rome Westernville Road, near Golf Course Road.

According to the latest from Sheriff’s Investigators, the passenger, who was first identified as Jean Spinelli, 79, of Rome, NY passed away while hospitalized from injuries suffered in the accident.

Philip Spinelli, 85, of Rome, NY was heading south when he veered across the northbound lane and struck an embankment, sending the vehicle end-over-end multiple times.

Philip was first flown out to SUNY Upstate Medical Center for medical evaluation.

At press time, police said an investigation remains ongoing and further developments may surface again.
