LEWIS COUNTY- The New York State Police is investigating a three-vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer that occurred Thursday afternoon at the intersection of State Route 12-D and State Route 26 in the town of West Turin.

The preliminary investigation has determined that at approximately 4:11 p.m., a 2020 Volvo tractor trailer operated by Andrew M. Sommers, age 38, of Three Mile Bay, NY, was traveling southbound on State Route 26, when a 2011 Honda Pilot, operated by Natasha M. Spellicy, age 39, from Taberg, NY was traveling northbound on State Route 12-D.

According to Troopers, Ms. Spellicy failed to stop at the intersection and entered the path of the tractor trailer, which struck the driver’s side of her vehicle.

Following the initial collision, both the Honda Pilot and the tractor trailer continued southeast. The SUV exited into a ditch on the northeast side of the roadway.

The tractor trailer then struck a red SUV, operated by Eric J. Croniser, age 63, which was traveling northbound on Route 26. Both the tractor trailer and the red SUV came to rest off the northeast side of the roadway.

Investigators say that Ms. Spellicy and her rear passenger, Tyler Spellicy, age 16, were pronounced deceased at the scene along with the family’s three dogs.

A front seat passenger, Kylie R. Spellicy, age 18, was airlifted to Upstate Medical University Hospital in Syracuse where she is listed in stable condition.

Eric J. Croniser and his passenger, Amanda L. Croniser, age 46, were transported to Wynn Hospital in Utica and are reported to be in good condition.

A Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) evaluation was conducted on Mr. Sommers, and he showed no signs of impairment.

The State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit (CVEU) and Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) responded to assist with the investigation.

The Lewis County District Attorney along with Lewis County Search & Rescue, Boonville Fire/EMS, Turin Fire/EMS, Constableville Fire/EMS, NYS DEC, NYS DOT, and Lewis County Emergency Coordinator all responded to the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
