UTICA PD: Boonville suspect charged after police discover a handgun and several open containers during traffic stop

UTICA- A traffic stop during the early hours on Sunday resulted in the arrest of a local resident from Northern Oneida County.

It was shortly before 1:30 a.m. that morning when Utica City Police stopped a vehicle in the 1000 block of Court Street after officers witnessed vehicle and traffic law violations.

Right off the bat, officers reportedly noticed several open containers in plain view inside the vehicle.

After requesting all occupants to exit the vehicle for a more thorough search, police said they discovered loaded, green in color 9mm handgun.

All occupants were subsequently detained and brought to the City Police Headquarters.

As a result of the investigation, Gabriel Carpenter, 21, of Boonville, NY was formally arrested and charged with criminally possessing a weapon in the second-degree, criminally possessing a firearm and open container in a vehicle.
