GLENFIELD- Authorities say the cause of Saturday’s house fire that displaced 5 Lewis County family members is electrical in nature.
It happened shortly after 9:00 p.m., according to the Office of Emergency Management.
3-G Fire Department was called out to reports of a structure fire at 5819 Main Street, Glenfield, NY. 9-1-1 dispatchers fielded calls that the house was on fire.
Although firefighters did the best they could, the home sustained “significant” fire damage to the south end, with water and smoke damage reported as well, officials said.
As a whole, authorities say the home is a total loss. Turin and Martinsburg Fire Departments were called for mutual aid.
Although no injuries were reported, emergency responders said two people were treated on-scene for smoke inhalation.
The address is owned by Margaret Hanno. Corey Baxter, along with Erica Landrum and three children are all receiving assistance by the Red Cross.
Officials said there is renter insurance by the occupants.
Despite authorities saying the cause appears to be electrical in nature, the investigation remains ongoing.
Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, Search & Rescue, New York State Police, Turin Ambulance, Lewis County Fire Investigators, National Grid and NYSEG all assisted on-scene.
