REMSEN- A woman from out of state, who allegedly fled from police officers during an attempted traffic stop this week in Oneida County, reportedly refused a chemical test, according to authorities.
Melissa M. Hovancik, 44, of Maryland, was arrested Thursday afternoon by the Sheriff’s Office. Hovancik was formally charged with one count each of unlawfully fleeing a police officer in the third-degree; DWI (refusal to submit to a chemical test); reckless driving; and 5 other unspecified vehicle and traffic tickets.
It was around 3:30 p.m. when patrols witnessed a 2014 Ford pick-up heading south on Main Street in Remsen, NY.
Deputies say the truck, allegedly driven by Hovancik, was swerving in and out of oncoming traffic, while almost colliding with multiple other vehicles head-on.
Patrols originally stopped the truck in a nearby parking lot, but it’s reported that Hovancik took-off and fled south before stopping for a second time.
Following an arraignment in CAP Court, Hovancik was released on her own recognizance and will appear in Remsen Town Court at a later date.
Meanwhile, police say her license was suspended.
Members of the New York State Police and DEC assisted.
