Alice Jane Pitcher
Boonville – Alice Jane Pitcher, 94, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2026 at the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany, New York.
She was born November 1, 1931 in Ava, New York, the oldest child of Alex and Stefe (Sarnacki) Daskiewich. She grew up on the family’s farm on Miller Road in the Town of Boonville and attended a one room school house in Alger District. In 1946 her family moved to Woodgate Drive where her family operated a butcher shop and raised chickens. At the age of seventeen she graduated with honors from Boonville Central School in 1949.
On July 2, 1949, Alice married Harland E. Pitcher at the Boonville First Baptist Church. She joined the church at the same time and went on to become a Sunday School teacher, Deaconess, and Treasurer of the church. She was also a member of the Alpha Delta Society. She had extensive knowledge of the Bible having studied and read it numerous times.
At one time she worked as a cashier at the Acme Grocery Store on Post Street. However, she chose to channel her homemaking skills to be a stay at home mother, which brought her great pleasure. Besides being known for her great cooking and sewing skills she was a talented gardener. She also developed an astute eye for finding garage sale treasures.
Alice is survived by four children, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her children include: James (Margaret) Pitcher, Robert (Dr. Lynne) Pitcher, Debra (Steve) McConnell, and Kimberly (Dennis) Ruth. She is also survived by: her sister, Hattie Zeigler, brother Ben (Dianne) Daskiewich, brother Stanley (Alice) Daskiewich, and sister, Helen Rachwal.
Alice was predeceased be her beloved husband, Harland, brother and sister-in-law, Alex and Greta Daskiewich, and two brothers-in-law, Richard Zeigler and Stanley Rachwal.
In keeping with her wishes there are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family with Burial in Boonville Cemetery.
