Benjamin Charles Platt
Boonville- Benjamin Charles Platt, 68, of Gulf Road, was called to duty as our Guardian Angel, on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. Though his journey here was short, it was full of music, love, laughs and many adventures. After a courageous fight with liver disease, Ben was surrounded by family as he left this earth at Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, NY.
Ben was born on February 25, 1957, in Constableville, NY, a son of Gordon and Mildred Leffingwell Platt. He joined his family as child # 7 of 12, Ben was son # 3 of 5 sons. Ben grew up north of West Leyden, NY on the family farm.
Ben graduated High School, in 1975, from Adirondack Central School, Boonville, NY. In 1975, Ben enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country from then until his honorable discharge, in 1976, when he returned home. On September 17, 1977, Ben was united in marriage with Yvonne Weber, at St. Martin’s Church, Port Leyden. This union marked 47 joy filled years in 2024.
Ben has held many jobs in his life, but will always be remembered for his great mechanical abilities. Over the years he worked on many vehicles and even worked side by side with his brother, Frank, at Frank’s Auto. Ben retired from the Village of Port Leyden DPW in 2021. He spent his time with his great grandson, Benjamin, after retiring, spending much time in the gardens, feeding birds and making many treasured memories!
Ben is survived by his wife, Yvonne, of 47 years, daughter, DeyLynne (Carl) McConnell, Turin, and son, Jacob (Angie Campeau) Platt, Boonville; grandsons, granddaughters and great grandsons.
