evelyn moonanBoonville – Evelyn M. Moonan, 98, of West Street, passed away on Monday, November 25th, 2024 after being lovingly surrounded by her family.

Evelyn was born on November 23, 1926 in Turin, NY, the daughter of Herbert and Anna McGee. Evelyn grew up in Turin and graduated from Turin Union School. She worked with her Mom at McGee Home and with her Dad in the woods helping to feed the lumberjacks. Evelyn then received her Bachelor’s Degree at Cayuga College and was first employed as Manager of Veelean Service Co. in Burkington, AL.

Evelyn married John Moonan, and they first owned Moonan’s Shoe Store in Pulaski and later bought Jack’s Footwear & Clothing in Boonville. They had 4 boys. After John’s passing, Evelyn worked hard to keep the store and provide for her family. She later changed the name to Dollar City and the store became a department store. She became a Real Estate Broker and owned Moonan’s Real Estate. She successfully ran both companies. The store closed after a fire in downtown Boonville in 2020 and was never reopened.

Evelyn will be remembered for her love of Real Estate and for her many years of operating Dollar City. She was known for her business acumen, and her friendly, helpful nature. She was very disciplined about her business life and worked in her office every day until her 98th birthday.

Evelyn is survived by her son William of Rome, her son John (Mary Jo) of Webster, New York, grandchildren Cara (Sean), Jenna (Nick), and John (Nicole). She is predeceased by her husband John L. Moonan on December 8, 1965, and her sons Herbert Moonan on July 10, 2023 and James Moonan on June 17, 2024.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Trainor Funeral Home, 143 Schuyler St, Boonville. Calling hour will be from 11:00AM to 12:00PM. Internment will be held privately at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Boonville.

In appreciation for their services, memorial contributions may be directed to the Boonville Fire Department and Ambulance at P.O. Box 164, Boonville, NY 13309.
