Gerald “Bub” Morczek
Highmarket- Gerald “Bub” Morczek, 72, of Byron’s Corners Road, Town of West Turin, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at his residence, while surrounded by the loving care of his children, family and Hospice.
Bub was born in Constableville, on August 15, 1951, a son of Adolph and Margaret Emma Graves Morczek. Most of his life was spent in Highmarket; he received his education at Constableville Elementary School and graduated from South Lewis Senior High School, Turin, with the Class of 1970. Following high school, he attended and graduated from SUNY Morrisville, where he earned his Associates degree in Resources Management and Conservation. For two years he was employed for a utility company in Philadelphia, PA.
On August 12, 1978, Bub was united in marriage with Diane Kraeger, at St. Mary’s church, Constableville. Later the couple was divorced.
In 1975, he returned to Highmarket and was employed on his father’s dairy farm and also part time as a snow plow operator for the Town of West Turin. When his father, Adolph passed away in 1981, Bub took over the operation of the family farm, known as “The Moo-Tel” Dairy Farm, operating this farm until 1990. From 1990 until he retired in 2013, Bub was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Town of West Turin, out of Constableville. After he retired, he worked part time as a snow plow driver for West Turin and also assisted his son, Stanley in the operation of his dairy farm on Byron’s Corners Road.
When not working or spending time with his family, Bub enjoyed many interesting hobbies. For a period of thirty-five years, Bub served as the official weather observer for the National Weather Service out of Buffalo, NY, receiving A Length of Service award, from the Buffalo office, in recognition for his continuous weather observations. Over the many years, Bub greatly enjoyed and the North Country and Tug Hill Region public, looked forward to his daily visits and reports on the weather in Highmarket, with the late Mr. George Capron, who was the “Voice of WBRV Radio, Boonville.
He is survived by his children, a son and daughter in law, Stanley J. (Valerie) Morczek, Highmarket; a daughter and son in law, Amy T. (John) Mercurio, West Leyden and a son, Ben G. (Amanda) Morczek, Highmarket; ten grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers in law, Sally (Bill) Denny, Highmarket, and Barbara (Phil) Brinkerhoff, Floyd. Also surviving his beloved canine friend, “Sheba,” who was ranked above family members!
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Church, Constableville, where Rev. Daniel Chapin, pastor will officiate. Interment will be in the spring in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Constableville. Calling hours are Wednesday, 3-6 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
