Jack W. Swancott
Boonville- Jack W. Swancott, 93, a resident of Woodgate Drive, for over 65 years husband of Jane, and a former resident and logger in the McKeever area, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where he had resided since December 1, 2023.
Jack was born in Taberg, NY, on June 4, 1930, a son of David William and Verna I. Freeman Swancott. He grew up in the hamlet of Swancotts Mill and received his education at West Leyden Central School.
From March 5, 1951, until his honorable discharge on March 5, 1953, with the rank of PVT 1st Class, Jack served his country in the U.S. Army, during the Korean Conflict era. During his service in the army, he was stationed in the New York City area.
After serving his country, Jack returned to the Adirondack region, working for Paul Crofoot for several years and living in a lumber camp, while constructing roads, operating bulldozers, skidding and transporting logs, mostly in the Blue Mountain area.
On March 5, 1955, Jack was united in marriage with the love of his life, Jane Jenks, in Little Falls, where their lifelong friends, Bob and Cheri failing stood up for Jack and Jane. Afterwards the couple lived in the village of Boonville, before constructing their first home on Woodgate Drive, in the late 1950’s.
Following his career in logging and logging roads construction, for many years Jack was employed as a tractor trailer driver transporting dairy products throughout New York state and Vermont, for McBride Transport, Dairylea and also for H.P. Hood. After retirement Jack was employed locally in auto transport for Carbone Carbone Auto of Boonville, Victory Auto, of Rome and Nortz & Virkler, of Lowville.
Jack was a longtime member of the Global Methodist Church, Boonville. He possessed a long time enjoyment of attending the annual New York State Woodsmen’s Field Days. One of his proudest moments was his being selected to be the Grand Marshal of the Woodsmen’s field Days Parade, in 2019.
In addition to his wife, Jane, Jack is survived by one son and daughter in law, Daniel Lee and Sarah Swancott, Boonville; one daughter and son in law, Crystal Lynn (Jim) Ringwald, Boonville. He was predeceased by a son, Jason Murray Swancott, on August 15, 2016. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and his siblings; Joyce Myers, Winchester, VA, Marjorie Parry, Whitesboro, Sylvia Hough, Floyd, Douglas Swancott and wife, Judy, Pulaski, NY, Jeannette Groszik and husband, Dane, Middletown, NY.
Jack’s family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation and thank you to the B-Wing staff at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, especially acknowledging Nurse, Maria, for the excellent care and compassion given to Jack.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation hours on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, from 2-4 P.M., at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where a service will begin at 4:00 P.M., with Pastor Jack Ford officiating, from the Boonville Global Methodist Church.
