Uvalda, GA & Boonville – John M. Gilbert, Jr, 88, passed away in the comfort of his home on Friday, January 5, 2024 in Uvalda, Georgia, while under the loving care of his companion Norma and Hospice.

John was born on May 28, 1935 in Utica, NY a son of John M. and Mary Dougherty Gilbert. John received his education at Holland Patent High School. On June 1, 1952 John entered the U.S. Navy serving aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, and USS Cimmeron during the Korean Conflict.

On September 6, 1958, John was united in marriage with Audrey Zeigler at the Boonville Methodist Church. Following a 34 year career as a tractor trailer driver for U.P.S., Utica, NY, the couple enjoyed spending winters in Bushnell, Florida and summers on DeVoe Road, Boonville. Mrs. Gilbert passed away on June 6, 2010.

He is survived by his devoted partner Norma Jean Bindley, daughters: Tammy Rogers, Kim (Fred) Baker, and Julie, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In keeping with John’s wishes his remains were cremated. There are no calling hours or funeral services. He will be laid to rest in the National Cemetery of Glennville, GA. Local services will be announced at a later date.
