Mary Frances Doorey Myers
Boonville- Mary Frances Doorey Myers, 76, widow of Lawrence, formerly of Millers Woods Road and more recently of Rt. 12, passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
Mary Frances was born in Amsterdam, NY, on January 22, 1949, a daughter of Vincent J. and Margaret M. Brumagim Doorey. She grew up in Amsterdam where she attended school, until her family moved to Rockledge, FL and West Chester, PA, where she graduated from Bishop Shanahan High School, West Chester, PA., with the Class of 1966. Thereafter Mary Frances furthered her education and graduated earning her Bachelor of Science Degree, from West Chester State College, West Chester, PA, with the Class of 1970, before enrolling in post graduate studies at St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY, Colgate University, Hamilton, NY and Syracuse University at Utica College.
She was employed as a microscopic solderer for Colt Industries, before becoming an elementary school teacher for many years for South Lewis Central School District, Turin. She began her career in education, teaching second grade at the Greig Elementary School, before teaching at Port Leyden Elementary School. Later she was employed as a secretary for Valley Aircraft/Empire Airlines, Oriskany.
On July 15, 1972, Mary Frances was united in marriage with Lawrence J. “Larry” Myers, at the First Baptist Church, Boonville. After their marriage the couple settled on the Miller Woods Road, near Boonville. For many years the couple were avid collectors of picture post cards and published a weekly post card with information about the card in the Boonville Herald. Mr. Myers, a Korean Conflict era veteran of the U.S. Air force and an Airline Pilot for Empire Airlines, passed away on December 30, 2020.
Mrs. Myers was a longtime active member of the Abundant Life Fellowship Church of Boonville, where she served as a church secretary and was also involved in prayer ministry. She enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, sewing and traveling. Ever proud of her Irish ancestry, Mary Frances received her Irish Citizenship and enjoyed her status of being a citizen of the United States and Ireland.
She is survived by two brothers and a sister in law; Robert Doorey, West Chester, PA and Kevin (Deborah) Doorey, Downingtown, PA and nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be on Saturday, February, 22, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Abundant Life Fellowship Church, Rt. 12, South, Boonville, NY. There are no calling hours. Interment in the spring will be in Boonville Cemetery. Following the services, a luncheon will be held at the Abundant Life Fellowship Church.
