Thomas Sawyer Powell
Boonville- Thomas Sawyer Powell, 65, of East Schuyler St., passed away suddenly, at his residence, of an apparent heart attack, on Saturday, February 8, 2025.
Tom was born in Constableville, on October 16, 1959, a son of Raymond D. and Dolores E. Sawyer Powell. He grew up in Boonville, where he received his education and graduated from Adirondack Central School, with the Class of 1977. Following graduation, in the late 1970’s Tom was employed in the reconstruction of the Adirondack Railroad. Later he was employed in camping vehicle construction for Prowler Mfg. Company and at Titan Homes, before many years of employment as a painter and carpenter in central and northern New York and in Florida. For several years he lived on Mary St. in the hamlet of Osceola and also in Florida, before returning to Boonville.
He possessed an adventuresome spirit. He greatly enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle over wide areas of New York state and Florida.
Tom is survived by a son, Todd Powell; two granddaughters, Harley and Emily Powell, all of Evans Mills; his mother, Dolores (Dolly) Remp, Boonville; two sisters, Michelle (Micky) Gaetano, Rene (Tom) Stocklosa, all of Boonville; one brother, Ned (Vicki) O’Brien, Evans Mills; his companion of many years, Ronna Gaetano, Boonville and a half-brother, Mark Wells, Florida. He was predeceased by a brother, James Powell and by his second wife, Sharon (Wilburn) Powell in 2021, his father, Raymond D. Powell and a brother in law Philip “Skip” Gaetano. Also surviving is an aunt, Laura “Peg” Sawyer, Boonville; nieces, nephews, cousins and his first wife, Sue (Munn) McIlroy, of Alex Bay.
His Funeral will be Thursday, February 13, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Rev. Jack Ford, of the Boonville Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the spring in Boonville Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral.
