
GLENFIELD-Walter J. “Walt” West, 63, of Blue Street, passed away on Wednesday afternoon February 5, 2025 at the Lewis County General Hospital Emergency Room.
A funeral Mass will be said at 11:00 a.m. on Friday February 21, 2025 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville. A luncheon at 3-G Fire Department will immediately follow the Mass, all are welcome. Any food donations may be taken directly to the 3-G firehall beginning at 10:00 a.m. Spring burial will be in Old Glendale Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Walt is survived by a niece, cousins, and many friends that felt like family. He is predeceased by his parents, and his brother John West.
Walt was born on June 1, 1961 in Lowville, NY, a son of the late James B. and Lois Ramsey West and graduated from South Lewis Central School in 1979.
Walt worked with his father painting/dry walling and in his carpentry business and was a well known bartender throughout the area, socializing with friends and customers as well as picking on them. He enjoyed downhill skiing, trips from Stillwater to Beaver River Station, going out to dinner and hanging with friends and was active with Donate Life in the Rochester area, including their 5K walk to raise awareness.
Walt was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Glenfield.
