BOONVILLE- For those who frequent the village, it might be a rough ride around the downtown traffic light, but local officials say that a permanent fix is on the way.
For the last few months, members of the State DOT and the Village DPW have been constantly patching up a stubborn stretch of Schuyler Street, and yet within hours, the road crumbles back to several large, deep divots and potholes.
It’s been a revolving problem that locals and visitors alike have been complaining about for quite some time, and the village mayor, Judith Dellerba, says a high traffic volume, especially for larger trucks that pass through almost daily, is to blame.
“Every time the street has been patched up, it erodes only within hours,” the Mayor said.
Fortunately for drivers and business owners, a more permanent solution is expected to be cemented this spring.
Mayor Dellerba says the State DOT is lined up to execute a complete do-over project, including digging up the street and rebuilding the foundation.
Similar projects are also expected later on for other parts of Main Street, along with Ford and Post Streets, the Mayor added.
In a separate matter, Mayor Dellerba says the village is still waiting on the delivery of the new traffic light, which will soon be installed at the intersection of State Route 12 and Main.
As previously reported, the stoplight is expected to be delivered sometime late in the winter or early spring.
We will be updating with any new timelines, including likely traffic reroutes and other disruptions.
