The national average for a gallon of fuel here in the U.S. was $3.27 Tuesday morning.
According to the AAA, prices jumped 12-cents earlier this month after a large refinery in Indiana shutdown amidst a power outage.
The refinery processes 435,000 barrels of crude per day, and the shutdown has caused prices throughout the Midwest to climb, pushing the national average higher as well. “Pump prices usually move higher this time of year, but a 12 cent jump in one week is notable,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson.
“However, the refinery shutdown will likely be resolved soon, so further increases at the pump should revert to slower and lower seasonal gains.”
A month ago now, the average national price was $3.08 and $3.41 this time last-year. In New York, the state average gas price was $3.30 Tuesday morning, slightly higher when compared to last-month’s average of $3.26 and still cheaper than a $3.48 average last-year.

According to GasBuddy, pump prices in Lowville, NY ranged between $3.34 and $3.39 as of this report, while Boonville, NY had slightly higher prices that ranged as low as $3.43.
Meanwhile, Watertown, NY is still boasting some of the cheapest gas prices neighboring close to our primary listening region, with some establishments offering fuel as low as $3.13, GasBuddy reports.
Furthermore, some gas pumps in Syracuse are offering even cheaper prices – as low as $2.98.
In the Mohawk Valley region, GasBuddy reported fuel prices Tuesday as low as $3.33 in Rome, NY and as low as $3.17 in Utica, NY.
