A record 38.4 million drivers were expected to hit the road for Memorial Day weekend as the summer driving season has arrived.

As of Tuesday morning, the national average price for a gallon of fuel was $3.58, which is slightly cheaper than a month ago now when it was $3.65. A year ago now, the national average price was nearly identical.

“Since the pandemic, the summer driving season has not seen a surge in demand, which can push pump prices higher,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson.

In New York State, drivers are paying a $3.67 average as of this publication, which is slightly less than the $3.71 average a month ago now.

Last-year at this time, New Yorkers were paying a $3.70 average at the pumps.

Between the Lowville and Boonville, NY regions, drivers, as of this report, are paying pump prices ranging as low as $3.65 and up, according to GasBuddy.

Some cheaper prices have been noted as of Tuesday in the city of Watertown, but most establishments up that way seem to be offering similar fuel prices.

Despite a pair of standout prices in the city of Syracuse, NY, most establishments are offering similar prices for gas.

Finally checking in with the cities of Rome and Utica, NY, drivers there are paying similar prices, according to GasBuddy.
