BOONVILLE- Taxpayers within the Adirondack Central School District struck down an EPA grant proposition Tuesday night.
The final tally for this vote, according to Superintendent of Schools, Kristy McGrath, was 167 votes for yes and 248 votes for no. What does this mean?
We asked Superintendent McGrath that question soon following Tuesday night's vote, to which she had no official response, however; we plan to reach out to her again soon for an official comment.
With 30 total busses in its fleet, Adirondack will have to follow suit with every school district statewide and eventually flip completely to electric by 2035, as mandated by New York State.
Come July of 2027, New York State Schools will no longer have the option of purchasing gas and/or diesel powered busses.
According to Adirondack Central School District, the local cost with the EPA grant would have been roughly $30,000. Without it, which is what taxpayers decided for now, the local cost after transportation aid will be over $339,000.
