ATV wreck with serious injury results in arrest of Lewis County resident on numerous charges

CROGHAN- A North Country resident is faced with a felony and several misdemeanor charges after wrecking an ATV while being intoxicated and causing serious physical injury to a passenger in Lewis County.

On June 14, the Sheriff’s Office started investigating an ATV wreck on the Erie Canal Road, town of Croghan.

Subsequent investigation has resulted in the arrest of Joseph R. Clement II, 33, of Harrisville, NY for one felony count of vehicular assault in the second-degree; misdemeanor counts of DWI, DWAI (drugs), reckless driving and aggravated unlicensed operation in the third-degree.

Clement II was also issued with several other unspecified traffic tickets.

It’s been determined by police that Clement II lost control of an ATV and crashed into a tree, causing serious physical injury to a passenger, who was not identified by investigators.

Following an arraignment, Clement II was remanded to the Lewis County Jail.
