Ava resident among pair of suspects charged for criminally possessing controlled substances in Verona

VERONA- A local resident from Northern Oneida County is accused of criminally possessing a weapon and a controlled substance.

According to the New York State Police (Lee), Kira A. Stolo, 37, of Ava, NY was arrested and charged early Monday with one felony count of criminally possessing a weapon in the third-degree (w/a previous conviction) and one misdemeanor count of criminally possessing a controlled substance in the seventh-degree.

Meanwhile, a second suspect, identified by Troopers as Howard J. Bender, 42, of Oneida, NY, was charged with one misdemeanor count of criminally possessing a controlled substance in the seventh-degree.

State Police said these arrests were made during the early hours Monday in the town of Verona.

At press time, authorities said that Bender was issued with an appearance ticket, while Stolo’s arrest status suggested an appearance for centralized arraignment.

There were no further details provided.
