ONEIDA COUNTY- Four life-guards and a team of emergency responders received honor and recognition for saving an infant’s life near a local lake this summer.

It was late in the morning on Tuesday, July 5 when local agencies received a 9-1-1 call for an 11-month old baby, who had stopped breathing at the Delta Lake Campground.

According to the latest updates from WKTV, Chief Lifeguard on duty Olivia Smith was the first to reach the baby. Moments later, members from Westernville Fire Department arrived, where CPR was already underway and authorities told reporters it took 15-rounds until the infant had a pulse.

Although it only took 5-minutes for emergency responders to arrive, officials said it was the lifeguards who ended up being the real heroes.

If they weren’t there, emergency responders say the scenario would likely have been much different.
