LOWVILLE- When a mass milk buyer cancels an order and local farmers have no other alternative to sell their product, they have no choice but to sometimes resort to dumping it.

This issue has and still remains a top concern for when it comes to agriculture here at home, across the state and around the country.

Fortunately, an idea has been brought forth in Lewis County that would essentially create a co-op owned milk processing plant. According to the latest updates from WWNY-TV, Corp Consulting Group was recently hired by the county to address the top concerns among farmers, including milk dumping.

The group says over a million dollars per-year in combined losses can result from milk dumping.

A proposed Lowville Producers Dairy Plant is currently estimated to create over $3-million for the local economy, while also adding somewhere between 40 and 90 jobs.
