Temporary lane closures for road construction will be suspended for the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend as of 6:00 a.m. Friday, August 29.

“While road construction will be suspended, motorists should still drive with caution through work zones, obey posted speed limits and be mindful of emergency and maintenance vehicles,” said New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James.

Drivers should be aware some work may continue behind permanent concrete barriers or for emergency repairs.

The construction suspension aligns with New York State’s Drivers First Initiative, which prioritizes the convenience of motorists to minimize traffic congestion and travel delays due to road and bridge work.

Meanwhile, officials remind that the Labor Day weekend law enforcement crackdown continues through Monday, as Troopers and local police agencies will have extra patrols to target drunk drivers, speeders and distracted drivers.

Finally, authorities remind drivers to move over, a law first established in New York for active police traffic stops, but since has been expanded to require drivers to slow down and move over for all vehicles stopped along the roadway.
