DEC Forest Rangers assist in rescuing injured hiker from Bald Mountain

WEBB- Emergency responders assisted with rescuing an injured hiker last week in the Western Adirondacks.

It was shortly before 1:15 p.m. Thursday, August 17 when dispatchers received calls about an injured hiker on Bald Mountain, town of Webb, Herkimer County.

Assistance requests were made for New York State Forest Rangers, with Lieutenant Hoag, Ranger Stone, and Assistant Forest Ranger (AFR) Bolton responding, along with Eagle Bay and Old Forge fire departments, and Old Forge Ambulance.

Rescue teams soon reached the injured 74-year-old hiker, who was not identified and is reportedly from Rome, NY.

Responders provided first aid for what was described as a leg injury.

The hiker was loaded into a wheeled litter and brought back down the mountain to an awaiting ambulance. The hiker was taken to an area hospital.
