ONEIDA COUNTY- The Barneveld Fire Department endured a structural collapse to the main part of their building over the weekend, but fortunately the equipment and apparatus was saved.
Fire Chief Kevin Kalk says they want the public to know that the fire department is still able and ready to respond. “We would like to thank all of our neighboring fire departments for reaching out and offering assistance during this difficult time,” the chief said.
The collapse occurred sometime shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
About two and a half hours before the collapse, members, who occupied the structure, began hearing alarming cracks and popping sounds that suggested the building was compromised, which prompted a mass evacuation of the fire apparatus.
While efforts were made to remove snow from the roof and to shore up the structure, it was ultimately decided that the building had become too unstable.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
