Old Forge Abandonded Cat December 2023

OLD FORGE- A few more details have come to light since authorities arrested and charged a Mohawk Valley woman for allegedly abandoning a cat in Old Forge, NY.

As reported this week, Alicia Ortiz-Youngs, 24, of Utica, NY was formally charged Tuesday with one misdemeanor count of abandonment of animals.

As of this report, it’s confirmed that the cat was dropped off behind the Tow Bar, according to a social media post from the establishment.

The cat, a female calico, was found inside of a plastic tote, alive, underneath a tree in the parking lot on Sunday, the Tow Bar said on social media.

Once the cat was brought inside the Tow Bar, officials said she managed to escape into the basement.

The latest updates on Monday suggest that the cat managed to crawl her way through a small slot under the bar and establishment owners did say there is a way to the outside through that crawl space.

Although there’s no confirmation the cat is outside, officials say they believe it is likely.

A few catch and release traps have been set in the area and the Tow Bar is asking members of the community to keep an eye out.

Ortiz-Youngs was issued with an appearance ticket, returnable to Webb Town Court at a later date.
