Woman charged for abandoning cat in plastic tote behind Old Forge business, police say

OLD FORGE- A woman from the Mohawk Valley is accused of abandoning a cat in the Western Adirondacks, authorities are reporting.

Alicia J. Ortiz-Youngs, 24, of Utica, NY was formally charged on Tuesday afternoon by the Town of Webb Police Department with one misdemeanor count of abandonment of animals.

According to Chief of Police Ron Johnston, police were notified of an abandoned cat that was found inside of a plastic tote behind a local business in Old Forge, NY.

The discovery occurred on Sunday and Chief Johnston confirmed the cat was found, alive.

Investigation determined that Ortiz-Youngs was the one allegedly responsible for abandoning the cat.

She was located and issued with an appearance ticket, which is returnable to Webb Town Court at a later date.
