Barneveld FD Dump Truck Live Wires August 2024

ONEIDA COUNTY- The Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident where a dump truck became entangled with some live utility wires.

9-1-1 dispatch reports that the incident occurred shortly after 11:00 a.m. Monday on State Route 12 in Mapledale, NY, right near the construction site at the former Adirondack Lanes.

Barneveld Fire Department was the primary responder on-scene. According to Chief Kevin Kalk, a dump truck came into contact with some live utility wires, while the driver was still in the cab of the truck.

Emergency responders reminded the driver to remain put until crews could secure the power so they could safely exit.

Route 12 southbound was shut-down at the State Route 28 intersection and traffic was detoured Liberty Lane and Mapledale Road until crews were able to mitigate the situation.

Crews from National Grid arrived quickly and were able to secure the power so the driver could exit the vehicle.

The roadway remained closed until about 1:00 p.m.

The incident is being investigated by the Oneida County Sheriff's Office and NY State Police Commercial Vehicle Division.
