ON-AIR SEGMENT: Lowville Academy Superintendent Rebecca Dunckel talks move to start school year with all students on one campus, despite second flood only days before first day of classes

LOWVILLE- In a follow-up to our original publication last Friday, Lowville Academy Superintendent of Schools, Rebecca Dunckel, joined North Country News on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 and discussed the district's decision to start off the upcoming school year with all students in the same building.

It might sound odd, because having all students in their proper classrooms is normal for the academic year, but the district was faced with a second flood this summer on August 19, forcing officials to float ideas for alternative learning locations for kindergarten and first-grade students, due to more flooding damage reported in that section of the elementary complex.

With that said, Superintendent Dunckel and the district ultimately felt it was best to work as hard as possible to arrange for students to all be in the same building come opening day.
