LOWVILLE- A residential home is a total loss following an early Thursday blaze. Lowville Fire Department was the primary responder to 5272 Dayan Street.
Alarms sounded shortly after 2:30 a.m. The property is owned by Lucas Weaver, according to Fire Chief, Joe Austin.
Castorland, Martinsburg and New Bremen Fire Departments were all called for mutual aid. Emergency officials say all occupants made it out and there were no injuries reported.
Initially, there was a dog that was unaccounted for, but fire fighters fortunately managed to rescue it from the porch roof. Other than being frightened and cold, the dog did not appear to show any further ailments, officials said.
As of this report, Chief Austin says the fire was sparked due to an electric stove malfunction, with combustibles too close to the heat source.
Despite their best efforts, firefighters say the house and its contents are a total loss. The structure was not insured.
A portion of Dayan Street was closed down while emergency responders worked the scene.
Members from Search & Rescue, the Sheriff’s Office, Village Police, National Grid, NYS DOT, the Village DPW, Lowville Fire Auxiliary and the Cause & Origin Team all assisted.
