Emergency responders rescue victims involved in Wednesday night motor vehicle accident in Southern Lewis County

Port Leyden FD Motor Vehicle Accident February 2025

LEWIS COUNTY- Emergency responders were on the scene of a two car motor vehicle accident Wednesday night in Southern Lewis County.

It happened sometime around 10:00 p.m. on State Route 12, just south of Port Leyden, NY. Initial reports from 9-1-1 suggested that that both drivers were entrapped.

Emergency responders were successful in rescuing them from the wreckage. They were taken away in ambulances for further treatment and evaluation.

Specific injuries were not described by the Port Leyden Fire Department, which was the primary agency on-scene.

A portion of State Route 12 was closed down for about an hour and a half while the wreckage was cleaned up.

At press time, a specific cause of the accident was not mentioned by emergency officials, but there were reports suggesting icy roads and poor weather conditions.

Members from the New York State Police, Sheriff’s Office, Lyons Falls Fire Department and New York State DOT all assisted.
