Felony charges filed against one of two suspects in North Country counterfeit money, theft case: NYSP Investigators

JEFFERSON & LEWIS COUNTIES- Authorities have announced an update regarding a counterfeit money and theft case in the North Country.

On March 9, the New York State Police initiated a campaign to identify a pair of suspects who allegedly used counterfeit $100 bills at various Walmart stores, including in Le Ray, Watertown and Lowville, NY.

As a result of their investigation, Starmecca K. Belton, 32, of Utica, NY was arrested and charged Monday with three felony counts each of possessing a forged instrument in the first-degree and conspiracy in the fourth-degree.

In addition, Belton was also charged with three misdemeanor counts of petit larceny.

Following an arraignment, Belton was remanded to the Jefferson County Jail on $7,500 bail.

The other suspect has yet to be identified, according to what the State Police told us as of this report.
