WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he is vowing federal legislation to do away with “cashless bail” for states that have such policies, including New York.

According to a news release from North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik’s office that cites a recent New York Post publication, she is expected to write the bill.

“I will be leading legislation to end Gov. Kathy Hochul and New York’s failed bail reform once and for all to save New York and save America,” Stefanik told The Post soon after a Trump press conference.

This development is a follow up to a report we aired on Tuesday, where Stefanik (R-NY-21) praised the President’s move to deploy the National Guard to crack down on crime in the Nation’s Capital city – Washington, D.C. – while also taking a jab at New York’s bail reform law and blaming the same as a reason to why D.C. is in the shape that the President claims it is in.

However, numerous sources still cite that crime stats in the U.S. Capital are trending down.

Recently during a Whitehouse press conference, President Trump declared that states with cashless bail laws are a “disaster.”

Meanwhile, several leaders here in New York, both at the state and federal level and most of them Democratic, have been firm defenders of bail reform, claiming it establishes equality for people who may not have the financial means to make bail if accused of a crime.

The law has been heavily criticized by several law enforcement figures and mostly Republican figures at the state and federal levels.
