
WEBB- Two hikers were rescued in the Western Adirondacks last-week after suffering injuries while afield.
The first incident occurred shortly before noontime on July 15 on Rondaxe Mountain, town of Webb, Herkimer County.
According to New York State Forest Rangers, a hiker needed assistance after suffering an ankle injury. Members from Old Forge and Eagle Bay Fire Departments assisted Forest Rangers in reaching the 53-year-old woman from Pennsylvania.
She was secured into a rescue litter before being lowered down through several steep sections of the trail.
A little over an hour later, the woman was brought to an awaiting ambulance. No further details were provided.
Meanwhile at shortly before 1:00 p.m. the next day, Forest Rangers and local emergency agencies responded to another injured hiker report on the same mountain.
Old Forge Fire and EMS splinted the subject’s injury, which was described as a fractured heel.
Rangers used the same rope techniques to lower the 51-year-old from Avon, NY through several steep sections along the trail.
A little over an hour later., crews reached a waiting Old Forge ambulance.
Inlet and Eagle Bay Fire Departments assisted with the rescue.
