A former New York State lawmaker and Congressman will serve as a U.S. District Court Judge for the Northern District of New York.
Anthony Brindisi was originally nominated by U.S. President Joe Biden over the summer to replace Judge David Hurd, who is retiring, according to numerous sources.
Brindisi, who once was a State Assemblyman and also represented parts of our local area during a term in Congress (NY-22), was recently confirmed for the position by the U.S. Senate.
Officials in the North Country have been chiming in with their reactions since this development blossomed. “I thank Sen. Charles Schumer for his efforts to bring this confirmation to the floor and greatly appreciate the distinguished and respected career of the Hon. David Hurd,” said New York State Senator Joe Griffo.
“Judge Hurd is a man of exceptional character who took a strong stand and remained committed to ensuring that his replacement lived in and was from the greater Utica area. I wish him a happy and healthy retirement.”
The Northern District of New York encompasses regions from the Mohawk Valley to the Adirondacks and from the Capitol to Central New York.
