Governor Hochul orders termination process on 14 people involved in Marcy Correctional Facility fatality

ONEIDA COUNTY- 14 workers at the Marcy Correctional Facility are being subjected to termination in the wake of a fatal attack on an inmate.

Robert Brooks, 43, of Monroe County died last-week following an incident, which prompted a subsequent investigation from state authorities.

Governor Kathy Hochul says she has directed the DOCCS to begin the termination process of 14 individuals involved in the case, 10 of which are reported to be corrections officers, sources say.

The Times Union reported that Brooks was physically assaulted, while handcuffed.

Video from body camera footage has been described by investigators as “extremely disturbing” and public backlash is expected once the films are released publically.

"The vast majority of correction officers do extraordinary work under difficult circumstances, and we are all grateful for their service,” said New York Governor Kathy Hochul.

“But we have no tolerance for individuals who cross the line, break the law and engage in unnecessary violence or targeted abuse.”
