House fire in New Bremen results in smoke and water damage

NEW BREMEN- Firefighters say a single family home received smoke and water damage from a fire that sparked in the basement.

New Bremen Fire Department was called out sometime shortly after 5:30 p.m. to reports of a structure fire at 8742 Mattis Road in New Bremen, NY.

Matthew Bruce, the homeowner, reportedly called 9-1-1 to report a fire in the basement of the home, according to the office of Lewis County Emergency Management.

Beaver Falls, Castorland, Croghan and Lowville Fire Departments were all called for mutual aid.

Emergency responders said the flames were under control within 40-minutes. Extensive overhaul operations were executed afterword.

No human injuries were reported and at press time, authorities said the cause of this fire remains under investigation. A possible source was not listed.

Members from the county’s Cause and Origin Team, New York State Police, Search & Rescue, National Grid and New Bremen Fire Auxiliary all assisted.
