HERKIMER COUNTY- A hunter was rescued from the wilderness of the Western Adirondacks over the weekend after failing to make it back to his camp, authorities say.

It was shortly after 9:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21 when dispatchers were notified of an overdue hunter in the Pepperbox Wilderness, Town of Webb, NY, according to the New York State DEC.

Dispatchers learned the hunter, who is 62-years-old and is from Ilion, NY, had mobility issues and his ATV was still at camp.

Forest Rangers Lee and Maxwell began searching through the night. At around 3:00 a.m., they located human tracks, which led them to a spruce swamp, where the hunter was found suffering from symptoms of mild hypothermia, due to cold temperatures and rain.

After warming the hunter, Forest Rangers managed to get him back to camp by 9:00 a.m. Sunday.

No other injuries or any other details were mentioned.
