ICYMI: Snowmobiler accused of intoxication following snowmobile wreck near Woodgate

ONEIDA COUNTY- Police have accused a snowmobiler of intoxication following a personal injury wreck over the weekend in Northern Oneida County.

It was just after midnight on Saturday when 9-1-1 dispatch received reports of a snowmobile wreck on the Bear Creek Road, town of Forestport.

According to an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, Greg Beyer, 57, of Minoa, NY was operating a 2022 Lynx Rave snowmobile and was traveling Westbound on Bear Creek Road, Trail S71, where he struck a snowbank along the side of the roadway.

Beyer was then ejected from the snowmobile and suffered back and chest injuries. Beyer was taken from the scene via Ambulance, then transferred to a LifeNet helicopter and flown to SUNY Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

According to authorities, members from the Sheriff's DWI unit responded to SUNY Upstate Hospital, where Beyer was subsequently issued a citation for Snowmobiling While Intoxicated. The charge is returnable to Forestport Town Court on a later date.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by Woodgate Fire Department, Old Forge Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and the New York State Police.
