LOWVILLE- A Lewis County Grand Jury has handed up an indictment against a North Country area resident for allegedly bribing a victim to give false testimony, while also threatening to kill their family.

On Thursday, the District Attorney’s Office of Jeffery G. Tompkins announced that Randy J. Ossont, 43, of Boonville, NY is formally charged on twelve criminal counts, including bribing a witness, criminal contempt, tampering with evidence, aggravated harassment and possessing meth.

According to the grand jury indictment, it is alleged that Ossont bribed the victim in a pending felony assault case, where Ossont is accused of beating this victim with a metal pole at a public park, while also stealing his backpack.

In exchange, authorities say it was the intent of Ossont for the victim to give a false testimony so that the charges would be dropped.

However, Ossont is further accused of threatening to kill the victim and his family, including wife and children.

While authorities executed their arrest warrant, they say Ossont tried to hide meth from police officers.

Ossont appeared in Lewis County Court this past Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to all charges.

He was subsequently jailed in lieu of an unspecified bail.
