WEST TURIN- Police and emergency responders say they are investigating an ATV roll-over accident that resulted in injuries over the weekend in Southern Lewis County.
It happened early Saturday afternoon on the Plumber Road, town of West Turin.
Though an investigation remains ongoing as of this update, investigators from the Sheriff’s Office say that Zachary T. Zerniak, 39, of Rensselaer, NY was heading in a Northwesterly direction at a high rate of speed, with an 11-year-old passenger aboard the machine.
Zerniak reportedly lost control of his 2016 Suzuki ATV after encountering a large water hole in the trail, causing it to roll-over several times.
He and the juvenile were subsequently thrown off the ATV, but it’s reported by emergency personnel that Zerniak left the scene.
He was found a couple of hours later on the Boshart Road in the town of Harrisburg, where authorities discovered that Zerniak had suffered undescribed injuries from the crash.
He was taken to Lowville Hospital before being sent to SUNY Upstate Medical Center for additional care.
Meanwhile, Members from Constableville Ambulance treated the juvenile on-scene prior to a trip to Lowville Hospital for what was described as minor injuries.
For now, police say the case remains under investigation.
Members of the New York State Police, New York State Forest Rangers and Groff’s Towing all assisted.
