Traffic stop results in Meth bust in Lowville, Deputies say

LOWVILLE- Additional charges are pending for a local resident in Lewis County, who is faced with charges for allegedly possessing meth, along with other offenses, following a traffic stop over the weekend.

The Sheriff’s Office says they stopped a 2021 Jeep Compass on the Ross Road in Lowville, NY on early Friday afternoon.

The driver, reportedly identified as Jay M. Augustyn, 35, of Croghan, NY was stopped for having a suspended license, according to police.

Meanwhile before the vehicle was removed, Deputies say they discovered a quantity of meth, along with other drug related paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

Augustyn was subsequently arrested and charged with one felony count of criminally using drug paraphernalia in the first-degree, along with one misdemeanor count of criminally possessing a controlled substance in the seventh-degree.

Furthermore, police said that Augustyn was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the second-degree.

Following an arraignment, police said that Augustyn was remanded to the Lewis County Jail, without bail.

Sheriff’s Deputies said an investigation remains ongoing and further charges related to the case are pending.

Members from the New York State Police, Lowville Village Police and Turck’s Towing all assisted.
