MADISON COUNTY- A joint investigation between the New York State Police and Department of Transportation (DOT) has resulted in the arrest of a DOT employee from Oneida County for alleged theft of state property, along with official misconduct.

According to investigators, Tina L. Barretta, 59, of Rome, NY is formally charged with one misdemeanor count each of petit larceny and official misconduct.

Authorities received a larceny compliant on February 4 regarding an incident that occurred last October at a DOT facility in Oneida, NY.

While employed as a DOT maintenance worker, police allege that Barretta directed that approximately 10 tons of asphalt millings be loaded into a DOT truck during work hours.

The material was subsequently transported to a private residence on Wood Creek Road Rome, NY, where it was deposited without authorization, the State Police said.

The value of the asphalt millings is estimated at approximately $250.

The investigation also determined that a state vehicle was used in the commission of the offense.

Barretta was processed and released on appearance tickets returnable to Oneida City Court at a later date.
