Oneida County Sheriff’s Patrol Cruiser collides with oncoming vehicle while attempting traffic stop in Trenton

TRENTON- Minor injuries were report after a Sheriff’s Patrol Cruiser collided with an oncoming vehicle Sunday evening.

It happened sometime shortly before 8:30 p.m. on State Route 12 in the town of Trenton, near the State Route 28 intersection.

According to a Sheriff’s Office investigation, Deputy Zachary Held, 23, was parked in a lot off from the western shoulder, facing south.

Deputy Held had been patrolling the stretch for traffic enforcement and entered State Route 12 to pull over a northbound vehicle.

While pulling out onto Route 12, it is reported that Deputy Held collided with an oncoming southbound Honda Civic, driven by Mariah Depan, 20, of New York Mills, NY.

Depan was taken to Wynn Hospital for complaints of pain, while a passenger, Jace Diehl, 22, of New York Mills, NY received EMS evaluation on-scene. Deputy Held was also evaluated on-scene by responding EMS.

Both vehicles were towed and the accident remains under investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said at press time.

Members from the New York State Police, Barneveld Fire Department and Northstar Ambulance all assisted.
