MARTINSBURG- A UTV roll-over accident over the weekend in Lewis County sent one local woman to the hospital, emergency officials say.
It was shortly before 1:00 p.m. Saturday when the Sheriff’s Office received alerts for a UTV roll-over, where the machine landed on a woman’s leg.
It happened on Centerville Road, town of Martinsburg.
Investigation has so far revealed that Wasyl P. Hrim, 40, of Boonville, NY was driving his 2021 Yamaha Wolverine in a northerly direction and failed to negotiate a mud pit alongside the road.
Hrim had a passenger aboard, identified as Elise M. Wieczerzak, 33, also of Boonville, NY. When Hrim’s UTV encountered the mud pit, it rolled onto its side.
When this happened, it’s reported that Elise’s leg was outside the machine. The side-by-side ultimately landed on top of her leg.
She was taken to Lowville Hospital. No specific injuries were mentioned.
Lewis County Search & Rescue provided assistance.
