WATSON- A single motor vehicle crash in under investigation in Lewis County.

It happened late Monday night on the Evies Pond Road, town of Watson, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

As of this report, police have said that a pick-up truck was found and appeared to have been burned. Further investigation suggests there were two occupants, including Alyse Cooney, 37, of Old Forge, NY (female passenger) and the alleged driver, William J. Winslow, 34, also of Old Forge, NY.

According to what investigators have learned thus far, both subjects had vacated into the nearby woods during the immediate crash aftermath, but when the lights of police and emergency responders began approaching, it’s reported that Winslow took off and ran further into the woods.

Thanks to a mix of responders and the use of a drone, an immediate search of the area was conducted, yet yielded no sign of Winslow.

However, deputies say he was found in good health some time later along the Erie Canal Road, town of Watson.

An investigation remains ongoing.

Members of the New York State Police (K-9 Bloodhound), New York State Forest Rangers, Lewis County Search & Rescue, Lewis County Fire Investigators, Lowville Fire Department and Groff’s Towing all assisted.
